I wrote the paragraph below while I worked as a freelancer. As I work now as a fulltime sysadmin it tends not to apply anymore, still if you think I can help you don’t hesitate to contact me.
If you are here because you have a problem and think that I could help you here are the areas I mainly cover:
Linux, windows servers and workstations, networking, troubleshooting, a/v systems, upgrades, migration and buying consulting. I used to do website development, Joomla CMS & WordPress install and customization, graphic design as well.
No need to read further, just give me a call or contact me using any of the means listed in the Contact page. I have no problem working remotely (I have done it before, usually trough rentacoder.com now vworker.com)
I work mainly with hardware, networks, linux, windows servers, desktops and laptops. I do upgrades, installations, service and maintenance. I am not very interested in programming or web design but I had my fair share of both. Mostly self taught but I do have a university degree as a computer engineer.
I don’t call myself a guru or expert. Many people call themselves experts and few are. I am sure I am not an expert because I am more a generalist than a guru in a particular field.
If you need help with your network, server, workstations or home pc in the Sibiu county area (also via remote access if it can be solved that way) feel free to contact me. I will give you an honest answer if I can or cannot help you. Most of the things I do are pretty simple. I am sure I can explain over 80% of it to a school kid. But there is a lot of simple to know – explaining all that 80% would take most of the 16 years I worked with computers. I do mostly installations, troubleshooting and maintenance.
I touched my first computer when I was 11 years old. It was a Sinclair Spectrum clone. My big brother installed it and showed me some easy stuff he knew in basic (drawing, little animations). The very next day, I was alone at home with precise instructions not to touch it. I did. I took the handbook and by the time they were home I did my first animation in basic. From there on I kept experimenting and learning. I moved on to a 286 some years later and after that I lost count of the machines I owned or used. Part of my troubleshooting skills come from the fact that until I finished high school I never had enough money for a new or powerful system. I was always one generation behind figuring ways to use modern software on memory or drive space starved systems. My first PC didn’t even come with a hard drive.
I discovered linux in 1998 when someone made a remark on a mailing list about it beeing horribly complicated. I liked the sound of that – so I found a magazine that had it on a accompanying cd – back then ’97 – ’98 I used a 2400 and later 14k modem so downloading slackware 3.5 was out of the question. The magazine had screwed up the folders but still I managed to install it. I found it elegant and simple. Even more it gave my pc a lot of functionality I never knew it had. Lately I neglected windows in favour of linux but still I tried to learn enough of both worlds. I sure know my way around windows networks, linux servers and such.
Being around in the field from so long I can also help with upgrading, migrating or maintaining vintage systems.
