Sony Vaio 13′

2010-current

2010 we bough a Sony Vaio for my Wife.

As the old toshiba began to show it’s age we decided it’s time for a new Laptop for the house Lady :) We couldn’t choose a worse laptop:

A sony vaio 13.3” (1.3 dual core, 6h+ battery, 4gb ram, 320gb hdd) it has been unreliable despite all my efforts (wireless disconects, failing to resume from sleep, hibernation, or failing clean boot, dead slow sometimes for no reasons, etc)

2011 Somehow improved the situation by buying a 500 Seagate Momentus Hybrid drive and reinstalling the OS using a blank OEM disk. We had to call Microsoft for activation but it works much better than the junk infused Sony recovery disks. Indeed the laptop now behaves like a new machine should. Still the wireless is not as stable as we’d like it but it’s acceptable.

Trying to use the bigger drive in the Toshiba actually showed that the main culprit could be the drive as the Toshiba started to behave just as bad and had to revert to it’s own old 60Gb hdd.

2011 Yes it was the hdd, my mistake, I think I should have sent it back to have the original hdd replaced. With the new hybrid hdd and a clean windows install (disposing with Sony’s crap) made it work as it should. The only thing left acting is the wireless, and even that after the latest round of drivers updates seems to behave.

2012 The Toshiba this one replaced is still working fine (despite the case starting to wear and the paint going away) now, 6 years after we bought it. I don’t see this Sony living for so long. Check back in 4 years and we’ll see :)
